Based on the wild series of graphic novels, Edgar Wright’s film version of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World may be the most entertaining and true adaptation of a comic story ever brought to life. The film manages to fit six books-worth of material into an hour-and-a-half action comedy, and does so with gusto. The young all-star cast, featuring Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Anna Kendrick, Kieran Culkin, Allison Pill, Chris Evans, Brandon Routh, and many more, is as charming and amiable as they are dysfunctional and quick. The resulting film is fast-paced, sharply funny, heavily reverential of video games and geek culture, and absurdly satisfying.
Scott Pilgrim failed to find an audience in American theaters, but if you haven’t yet, seek it out on Blu-ray. You won’t be disappointed.
