The show about that thing you love
James Bond has always been the butt of many jokes, and the purveyor of many himself, but, surprisingly, his latest adventure seems to have washed many of them away.
Skyfall is easily the most melancholy Bond film to date, with a brooding performance by Daniel Craig, a vicious but also tragic villain in Javier Bardem, and of course the final screen role of Dame Judi Dench. If you’re looking for the huge and preposterous action sequences of previous entries in the series, you’ll likely be left cold by the much more intimate, brutal battles here.
In addition to being the most successful Bond film ever at the box office, it’s garnered a great deal of critical appreciation from many, including James Schuyler Houtsma, who pitched the film in our all-movies episode of THIS!
